This is the final for an assignment I had to do for university. It was pretty fun but still hard work, much of the animation is very rigid but you get the idea. Just wanted make something funny and a little bit weird. ;)

This is a rough animatic for a project I am working on at uni at the moment. This is not the finished product however that will be vastly more colourful and much smoother animation. I will also post that when I’m done. Very excited that its coming together though :)  The sound is very basic and not edited too well but the finished animation will have ironed out all that.

The story is basically a girl who loves too eat dirt. However little tiny grass shoots start popping up all over her body, she freaks at first out but continues to eat the dirt. It’s a vicious cycle with many possible interpretations.

Hello, just calling to say I have made a new A5 zine (very exciting!) and it is now for sale on my Etsy site. It contains recent drawings and illustrations of mine as well as a longer poem at the very end. There are 16 pages and it is bound with red cotton thread. There is a caption to go with each drawing which are generally about self-preservation or me personally and thoughts about some different aspects of life in a quirky manner. :) Also if you reside in Melbourne you can pick up a copy at Sticky Institute (lucky you!) and check out the other awesome zines they have there as well, no shipping required! I am very glad to have an outlet for all these drawings and ideas. Here are a coupe of preview images:

My obsession with stickers is yet to go too far but it seems near on the horizon. These are just notebooks i decorated for uni or as journals. There is something really satisfying about doing this but i cant properly articulate what that is. I guess it could be that i am wanting to look at so many things at once :P The last two photos are just some desk craziness.

Hello there :)

Here are some drawings for you. The top two are just some doodles i did that came out quite good in  funny way that is. The rest are some sketches for a little story i made up about a girl called Soso who finds a strange creature in the forest and keeps it in her cupboard. ;)

Lately I have been writing letters to my sister, since we live two and a half hours away from each other. It’s also an excuse for me to use the dubious amount of tape and stickers and stamps that i keep accumulating. The last few times I have forgotten to take photos though :( In any case, she loves it! It makes me happy that i can make her something she enjoys instead of buying pre-made things or toys (she’s a lot younger than me btw).

:)

long time no post :( but good news! Here is a new film I made for a film class. It’s called day in the life of bear. I don’t own the rights to the music

They are housed in a small notebook, the perfect size. I will probably keep collecting them; because i love to collect things, but handwritten notes are one of my favourites :P There is something tangible and whimsical in their disposable-ness.

Hello, I just wanted to share some photos of artworks i made last year, they were all in my exhibition i had in july. Since then i have been able to take photos of them with a good camera and so here they are!

ImageImageImageImageImage

More pages from my sketchbook that i sent to the brooklyn art library, part of The Sketchbook Project 2013. Which you find out more about here, (that i forget to mention earlier) and view other peoples books! Mine will be on there soon enough. ;)

Here is what i am also doing at the moment besides getting sunburnt and eating marshmallows:

Reading: Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Listening: the Shins and Neutral Milk Hotel

Watching: Moonrise Kingdom and Adventure Time

Looking: Angie Wang‘s illustrations

Hello there, I have recently been working on and filled up a small sketchbook and sent it off to be a part of the Sketchbook Project in Brooklyn. It’s a project where anyone can enter and they keep your book in the Brooklyn art library as part of a collection, i think there are 2000 entrants this year! After a difficult beginning process i think i am quite pleased with how it turned out. Here are some of my favourite excerpts: ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

The last two were from the day after, but i threw them in for good measure ;) I feel like the butterfly photos turned out the best, after all it was the best part of the zoo. In many ways it was good to use film because I wasn’t taking 20 photos of one thing, just one or two – which enables you to hold your focus better and become a more considerate photographer. (However in taking many you are bound to come up with photos that were worth the multitudes.)

sorry you haven’t heard from me in a while, but now i am on holidays again so there is no excuse :P

hope you enjoy,

As it turns out, to my sheer delight, that I don’t destroy everything I touch! It doesn’t turn to gold either but you can’t have everything right?

I got a new camera a few weeks back, a Canon EOS 650D and am having so much fun just snapping away. Yet somehow I still find analogue much easier :P These are just some macro experiments – as well as being genuinely excited that I, renowned cactus-killer, can grow plants again!

Here are some belated photos from my trip to europe this year that I took on my pentax k1000. I scanned the originals into my computer so it has lost a little quality but you get the idea. It was really rewarding to shoot film, only taking one or two photos of a subject instead of 20. But also the depth this camera captures is beautiful and affecting in it’s own right. These are only a few favourites that I’ve chosen(so hard to choose!!), and I took seven rolls altogether. I think my favourite place to photograph was portugal, the weather was lovely and around every corner seemed to be something interesting. :)

Some images from my new zine! Yay! which is now available online via to my etsy store ! OR if you live in Melbourne head on down to Sticky and grab yourself one!

I also have available now custom made tote bags like the one I made and posted here, for a reasonable price, also on etsy, how very exciting! And of course there is a whole range of my drawings and illustrations there as well if you are interested :)

Love katpig

Here are some more photos and details from my recent exhibition at Punk Milk Gallery.

Still more to come! ;)

On Friday I installed my very first solo exhibition in Frankston, at a gallery called Punk Milk with help from all the wonderful people there. It was super exciting!! but of course stressful too. It is on until Thursday of this week. It was a lot of work for just one week of showing but definitely worth it :) I exhibited a series of framed watercolour illustrations, all my journals from the last 6 months, various sketches, a new zine, two stop motion animation projections and the paper and plushie characters that acted in them. For those who can’t make it here are some photos to ogle, that I took today while gallery sitting.

Here is the artists statement that I provided also (and rustled up at the last minute ;)

Katherine Pigott is a Melbourne-based emerging artist working in the field of animation, drawing and watercolour illustration.

‘A World Defined by Dreams’ is based around ideas of the earth’s natural cycles, the relationship between man and nature and also narrative and fantasy as a form of cathartic process. Its main focus however is on these visions of an otherworldly kind that are somehow so familiar.

These ‘otherworldly’ depictions show isolation, destruction, transformation, fear and longing. Yet they appear hopeful and inspired by the greater powers and potential mysteries of the planet.

Dreams are a starting point for visual association and further ideas and brainstorming. The commanding visuals in dreams can be so impressive on the mind that there is a need to put it on paper or in motion somehow. Drawing acts as an investigation into the understanding of dreams and the further regions of the brain untouched by conscious thinking. Each drawing is like one moment captured in the timeline of thoughts that travel through one’s mind; they are just the beginning of a story that the viewer has to finish in whatever way they choose. And just like in a dream the viewer can end up in the middle of a story or place with no idea how they got there.  Unlike traditional storytelling, these images don’t give so much away, the mystery in a drawing can be the most interesting part. Many of the works also embody and describe the intuitive process of drawing itself and in the case of the two films showing, the way in which the medium of animation has the ability to dictate narrative and process.

While displaying personal sentiments and questions, crises etc, each work describes in some way a universal predicament, a human predicament.

Thanks for reading, I hope it was somewhat interesting for you. I’ll leave you again (after such a long break) with the newest film I showed, right here.

Enjoy!

A new animation I have been working on! It is still a working progress, I need to edit it a lot more so it doesn’t look so rough. It is yet to be titled, but something like “critters’ is all I can think of so far. I made all the characters and set and filmed it in my apartment.

Hope you enjoy,

I took these photos on my phone during my recent trip to europe. we travelled in a van and three ferries. It wa a mish mash of rain, sunshine, sandy beaches and pebbley ones, long drives and breathless views, animal encounters and personal reflections. (and a taste of art too!) These are only random snaps as I took many more on my film camera (pentaxk1000) and have yet to get digital copies. So I hope you enjoy some of these for now :)

nice to be back in melbourne even though it is chill and cold,

Here is a sneak peek from a part of my new animation that i’ve been working on, this is the ‘studio’ (i.e. my bedroom) where i have been shooting it. But i don’t want to reveal too much of it just yet ;)
